Last weekend, a Rush Select team comprised of players from Rush Canada and Rush Michigan participated at the prestigious invite-only Dallas Cup Tournament. The Dallas Cup has seen some of the biggest soccer stars in the world play in the tournament. The list of alumni includes David Beckham, Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Wayne Rooney, Chicharito, Raul, Andrea Pirlo, Giovanni dos Santos, and many more. Moreover, 1 out of every 19 nineteen players on the 2014 FIFA World Cup rosters were Dallas Cup alumni. 11 of the 32 teams featured a Dallas Cup alum. Last year, our 2003 team advanced to the semi-final of the Dallas Cup.
Here’s what Rush Canada’s technical director and the head coach, Slobodan Pavlovic had to say about this years event:
“Our team competed with some of the best teams from the United States and South America in their group. Although they did not advance to the knockout stages, the team showed huge potential and with better preparation, they are able to compete with the top teams on the continent. They finished the group stage with one tie and two losses, but the competition overall generated lots of lessons learned and motivated the players to work in many aspects of individual development that require a diligent individual approach. As always, the Dallas Cup has displayed the highest level of competition confirming it to be the largest and the best global soccer tournament.”
