Oakville – How amazing is this! Our Women’s U19 Reserve side played an undefeated North Toronto team this past Saturday afternoon. If you were 10 minutes late for the kick off you would have missed 4 goals….yes it’s not a typo, FOUR! . During the regular season Rush Canada played North Toronto 3 times which ended up as a draw and two losses so the players knew this cup final was going to be a difficult challenge.
The women were ready and after a positive week preparing the game it finally kicked off. Two minutes in Rush scored the opener. 4 minutes later North Toronto came back to tie the game. From the resulting kick off Rush scored again and was up 2-1. Two minutes later when the clock struck 8:22, Rush made it 3-1 which is where it remained at half time. One of the craziest starts to a cup final in history in any league let alone League 1 Ontario.
Both teams kept fighting and created numerous chances on both ends, but it was North Toronto who scored in the 62nd minute to create a thrilling finale. Nails were chewed, parents where cheering and coaches started thinking what’s going to make the difference. Then in the 85th minute North Toronto tied the game, but it was ruled off-side. Continuing with their relentless pressure in the 88th minute North Toronto hits the crossbar, with the resulting rebound cleared. Finally in the 90th minute, Rush breaks through scoring their 4th goal and clinching the match.
We are so proud of this team who have come together to show how resilience and determination can overcome barriers as long as everyone remains positive, works hard and works for the team.
Well Done!!!
