Christian Pulisic Makes Debut in Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund Seventeen-year-old former Michigan Rush player, Christian Pulisic, reached another milestone in his already Pulisicoutstanding career. On Saturday, January 30, Pulisic made his professional debut with Borussia Dortmund, entering as a substitute in the 68th minute in their 2-0 win against Ingolstadt. Pulisic’s debut came one week after making the 18 man roster the week before in BVB’s 3-1 win against Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Hersey, PA native’s soccer career began with several youth stops in the United States and the Bundesliga debut marks the start of his professional soccer career. While his dad, Mark Pulisic, was the coach and director of soccer operations at the Detroit Ignition of the Major Indoor Soccer League, Christian played with the Michigan Rush.
In his first year with the U-17 Men’s National Team, Christian earned six caps scoring 1 goal and 2 assists. At the 2013 Nike International Friendlies, the U-17 MNT took home the title while Christian earned tournament MVP. In 2014, he was second on the U-17 MNT with 17 goals and tied for second with 7 assists, while starting 17 of 21 games. Last year, Christian starred for the U-17 MNT at the U-17 World Cup, even though the U-17 MNT had a disappointing U-17 World Cup going 0-2-1.
In the summer of 2014, Christian journey took him to Borussia Dortmund’s youth program where he began with the U-17 side. While with Borussia Dortmund’s U-17 side, Christian won a U-17 German Championship and scored six goals and five assists. The next season he was promoted to Borussia Dortmund’s U-19 team scoring four goals in the first half of the season and getting noticed by the senior team.
Pulisic was invited to the midseason training camp in Dubai with the senior team and was officially promoted to the Borussia Dortmund roster in January 2016. Pulisic has impressed, scoring in a 4-1 win against Jeonbuk Motors, South Korean top-flight leader on January 15 as well as scoring in a 3-1 practice match victory against Union Berlin on January 24.
